How To Find Your Why...

Knowing your ‘why’ is an important first step to figure out the ‘how’ to achieve your goals. Only when you find your ‘why’ will you find the courage to take the risks needed to stay motivated and move your life in a new and rewarding direction.

For most of us our “why” is our family. We say things like I want to get healthy to be there for my kids, I want to be able to play with them without getting tired, I want to be there when they have kids. I want to be the ‘cool’ grandparent that they want to be around! If it’s for your spouse, you may say things like…I want my spouse to be proud of me or I want to look good for them to notice and compliment me.

All of these things are relevant, BUT…I’m going to tell you that none of this will work until you decide to make a change for YOURSELF and nobody else! You have to dig deep into your own knowledge about you! Find out why you got where you are today. If you’re overweight…I’m positive it didn’t happen overnight, did you just quit caring about yourself, did you have a significant health issue, or did you have a stressful event that triggered something inside you? You MUST figure out how you got here in the first place to move forward.

Start with a vision of yourself of where you want to be in 6 months, 5 years, 10 years. Then make small goals to get to that vision. These goals must be realistic and measurable. You need to know if you met the goal you intended and hold yourself accountable. Family and friends can help with you goals, but only you will be able to do them. Your strength and control of yourself must come through.

Once you acknowledge your own “why” about things and start making small goals, those bigger visions will start to be in your sight. And little by little you will get there. It takes time to change habits but the end vision is always worth it!
